Curriculum and Instruction

The state of Wisconsin has adopted the Common Core State Standards for core academic subject areas.  The district curriculum, instruction, and assessment plans reflect these standards.  Additionally, Wisconsin has developed standards for elective areas such as world language, art, and family and consumer science, to which the district also aligns its curriculum.  The Denmark School District is a Professional Learning Community that focuses on three questions: "What do we expect students to learn and be able to do?" (Curriculum), "How will we know when they have learned it?" (Assessment), and "What will we do for those students who don't learn it or already know it?" (Differentiated Instruction and Intervention). In maintaining this Professional Learning Community, the district has adopted a curriculum mapping process to establish rigorous expectations of proficiency for students at each grade level. Programs are developed to meet the needs of individual students within the classroom. An enrichment program is available to gifted students as well as a K-12 Special Education program.

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction oversees the development and implementation of standards-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices, and staff development related to Professional Learning Community goals and Response to Intervention/Instruction.
