Driving Quote: Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.   Plato

The Denmark Community School believes that genius lies within each student.

Mission: A learning community where students become purposeful adults through creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication.

Vision: The Denmark Community School will create a dynamic learning environment for curious self-directed learners of the School District of Denmark. The Denmark Community School emphasizes rigor, relevance, and relationships in meeting the social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs of students. Through student-centered approaches and differentiated instruction, students will build stronger connections between learning and their own worlds. Project-based learning will make learning relevant to the individual learner while a strong commitment to service projects and outdoor pursuits will create a strongly bonded community of learners. The Denmark Community School will incorporate 21st  Century skills through authentic, technology-rich projects, and make time for reflection and celebration.

As students begin their studies at DCS, much of the instruction will be coordinated and directed by their instructors. As students become more familiar with the learning process, they will accept more responsibility for planning and implementing their own individual and group projects.

Students may also choose to participate in teacher-led courses. These courses will combine standards from several different subjects and allow students to study an in-depth topic or integrated study led by one or two faculty members. Students will also participate in workshops—skill-based short-term lessons that bring experts together with students to help them master specific skills. In addition, a great deal of student learning will take place through field studies, job shadowing, and service learning.
