Digital Citizenship

This month, your child will be learning about digital citizenship using curriculum from Common Sense Media.  The grade level themes for December are:

6th grade:  Strategic Searching  Students learn that to conduct effective and efficient online searches, they must use a variety of searching strategies rather than relying on a single source. Students will learn a five-step method for planning and carrying out an online search and then practice applying it.

7th grade:  A Creator’s Responsibilities in this lesson, students will discuss what responsibilities they have to respect others’ creative work. They’ll understand that piracy and plagiarism are irresponsible and disrespectful behaviors that have ethical and legal implications.

8th grade: Identifying High-Quality Sites Students explore the idea that anyone can publish on the Internet, so not all sites are equally trustworthy. They need to carefully evaluate the sites they use for research, and then decide which ones they can trust.

For more information, click on the titles above and you’ll be directed to a Family Tip Sheet.
